Volunteer Recognition for your Church
We often talk about the safety, organization and management of volunteers. They do a lot for our organizations and are valued members of our dedicated team. The role they play may be large or small. In either case our daily operations are in enhanced by their services. So, let’s say thanks!
Establish a general guideline by which volunteers are selected to be highlighted for their service. Choose an adult member, youth member, staff member or even a tiny tot. Be varied in your scope. Perhaps honor years of service, witnessed small acts of kindness, going above and beyond the call of duty or a simple gestures of goodwill extended to another member. It doesn’t need to be an extreme and lofty accomplishment; simply a good deed worthy of recognition. Be creative and have fun with the selection process.
Consider a wide variety of ways in which to say thanks! A quick nod during announcements at the Sunday services. A note in the Sunday bulletin or newsletter highlighting their service. A picture with cards of thanks attached to a message board. Or, even selecting their favorite donut flavor for coffee hour in the fellowship hall.
First and foremost, you give volunteers additional well-deserved praise for their time and commitments. You also highlight areas of your organization that utilize and seek such talented people, perhaps encouraging others to consider investing in their own way. You also enhance the congregation’s awareness of tiny acts of good that can come from anybody at any time. All told, your organization will benefit from this simple gesture of gratitude.
